Open source developers pick Android over iPhone [Wed, 17 Mar 2010 11:35:58 +0000] While the Apple iPhone remains the undisputed king of mobile app downloads, Android has been winning converts among open source developers since its inception. Now, according to new research, Android has made enough of a splash that it can claim more open source developers than the iPhone.
Alfresco meetup, London, 29 April 2010 [Tue, 16 Mar 2010 11:08:37 +0000] Alfresco is planning another series of 'Alfresco Meetups', with the London event set to take place on 29 April. The meetups cover a range of open source topics, and are designed to inform and educate the community on all the latest company news.
CodePlex Foundation announces appointment of permanent board members [Thu, 11 Mar 2010 10:03:45 +0000] The CodePlex Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation formed with the mission of enabling the exchange of code and understanding among software companies and open source communities, has announced the appointment of four members to its permanent Board of Directors. New appointees include Jim Jagielski, Chief Architect at SpringSource, a division of VMware, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Apache Software Foundation and an Advisory Board Member at Open Source Software Institute, and Tony Hey, Corporate Vice President of External Research for Microsoft Corporation.
Drupal founder speaking in London, 29 March 2010 [Mon, 08 Mar 2010 14:19:23 +0000] Dries Buyaert, founder of Drupal, will be speaking at the UK Drupal community's monthly 'Drupal Beer and Chat' on 29 March. The event takes place the last Monday of every month and is a meeting place for anyone and everyone involved in Drupal. Anyone interested in attending is advised to book a place.
OSI 'categorically rejects' IIPA's attack on open source [Mon, 08 Mar 2010 09:12:54 +0000] The Open Source Initiative has condemned the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) for unjust attacks on open source. The IIPA is pushing for the US government to blacklist a number of countries for their open source policies.
JISC Conference 2010, London, 12-13 April 2010 [Tue, 02 Mar 2010 16:17:39 +0000] JISC's 8th annual conference will take place at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London starting on the evening of 12 April followed by a full day on 13 April 2010. The event will showcase JISC's expertise and knowledge on technology in education to over 750 academics, IT experts, library professionals, policy makers, research staff, senior managers, students and teachers from across education within the UK and internationally. OSS Watch will be there with two different exhibition stands so please do drop in and say hello.
MoodleMoot UK, London, 13-14 April 2010 [Mon, 22 Feb 2010 10:44:58 +0000] The University of London will be hosting the next MoodleMoot UK to take place 13-14 April 2009 at Senate House, University of London. The conference will be of interest to anyone using or planning to use Moodle for delivering e-learning and training. It will provide a forum to share experiences and sessions will range from something for those just starting out as well as those who have been using Moodle for years.
Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit, San Francisco, California, 14-16 April 2010 [Tue, 26 Jan 2010 16:40:01 +0000] The Linux Foundation's 4th Annual Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit is taking place in San Francisco, California on 14-16 April 2010. This event is for key stakeholders spanning the developer, end user and vendor communities to come together to collaborate and advance the Linux platform. Registration is now open.
UKUUG Spring 2010 Conference, Manchester, 23-25 March 2010 [Tue, 15 Dec 2009 10:43:58 +0000] UKUUG's annual Large Installation Systems Administration (LISA) conference and tutorials will be held in Manchester on 23-25 March 2010 at the Manchester Conference Centre. The call for papers is now open and submissions are invited for tutorials and conference talks.
